How to Keep Visitors Returning to Your Site

While some of the magic behind attracting visitors to your site can be attributed to proper coding and playing nicely with search engines, in reality there are a number of other factors that also impact whether you’ll successfully convert a first-time visitor into a repeat offender. Here are some steps you can take to ensure that you continue to attract traffic to your company’s website:

Keep a focus on the content

You can have a site that looks amazing, has the best photographs in the world, and loads in the blink of an eye, but if the content on the site is subpar, it’ll be hard to get a regular audience. Make sure that the copy on your site serves a purpose for those paying you a visit. Is it informative? Entertaining? Timely? There needs to be something about the text that makes a return visit necessary.

Give them a reason to keep coming back

If you update your site once a year, you’re not giving even your most dedicated customers a reason to visit your site frequently. Instead, make it a point to freshen up your content frequently. When visitors know they’ll have something new to read, watch, or listen to, they’ll be more inspired to make your site a regular part of their online routine.

Publicize what you have to offer

When you’re cranking out an informative, funny blog regularly, you’re taking a major step in ensuring that you’ll get repeat traffic. However if no one knows about this high-quality content, you might as well save your time and not produce it. When visitors land on your site for the first time, they should receive some guidance about what to do. Maybe you want to include a pop-up encouraging them to give your blog a look. You could also tweet about the content, or post about it on Facebook. Don’t just hope that users stumble upon your blog and share it with their friends; instead you should guide them to it knowing that once they read it they will probably want to check back for updates. Also, if you add to this section of the site regularly (every Tuesday, for example) let them know when they can expect a new post.

Join a community

You can promote your site’s content on social media until your fingers fall off, but if your follower base isn’t very large you’ll find that you have a hard time driving traffic (and therefore repeat traffic) to your page. To increase these numbers, work on building relationships in your industry. When you’re well connected, it’s more likely that colleagues and friends will begin sharing your content, which increases the number of users who will scope out your site each day. If these individuals like what they see, they’ll return.

Make your URL easy to remember

If your URL is something like MarksGreatMarketingCompanyinTexasforLawyers.com, don’t be surprised when people struggle to remember how to track you down online. Make sure your URL is short, sweet, and to the point. It should also contain keywords that are relevant to your business, and it must be easy to spell.
